PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, is a medical procedure we use at OneSkin Dermatology in Chambersburg, PA. PRP is used in various fields to stimulate tissue repair and promote hair growth.  Here's a general overview of PRP for hair loss:

A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient by our team at OneSkin Dermatology. The collected blood is then processed in a centrifuge, a machine that spins rapidly to separate its components based on density. This process isolates the platelets and plasma, creating a concentration of platelet-rich plasma. The concentrated PRP, which contains a higher number of platelets than normal blood, is then extracted. The PRP is injected directly into the scalp at the targeted areas experiencing hair loss.

Platelets contain various growth factors that are believed to stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth. PRP is thought to enhance tissue repair and regeneration, providing a boost to the healing and rejuvenation processes in the scalp (or wherever it is used). The number of PRP sessions required can vary based on the individual and the severity of hair loss. Typically, several sessions spaced about 6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.

The effectiveness of PRP for hair loss varies among individuals, and not everyone may experience the same level of improvement. PRP is most often used in conjunction with other hair loss treatments, such as topical minoxidil or oral medications, to enhance results.

Before undergoing PRP for hair loss or any medical procedure, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to discuss individual suitability and expectations. Schedule your hair restoration consult at OneSkin Dermatology for more information.
