Exfoliation is an essential step in promoting healthy, youthful-looking skin. That's why chemical peels are one of the most popular treatments at OneSkin Integrative Dermatology – they help remove dead and damaged skin cells to reveal a more even-toned, radiant complexion underneath.

Our OneSkin team utilizes a range of superficial to medium-depth chemical peels to reduce the appearance of age spots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and other blemishes that leave you feeling less than confident.

What ingredients are used in chemical peels?

Chemical peels are skin resurfacing treatments that use a solution to exfoliate the outer layers of your skin. Each solution is formulated with a specific set of ingredients to target different issues. Our team may recommend salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, or mandelic acid to treat various problems such as wrinkles, sun damage, and acne scars.

Here is a brief description of the chemical peels we offer:

  • Salicylic: Comes from natural sources like willow bark and sweet birch but can be made synthetically. Salicylic acid is gentle and great for those with sensitive skin.
  • Glycolic: Derived from sugarcane, glycolic acid is widely used for exfoliation. It's also effective for improving overall texture and tone.
  • Trichloroacetic: Uses glutathione and a blend of other acids to address deeper concerns like acne scars.
  • Mandelic acid: Made from bitter almonds, mandelic acid is an effective exfoliator that reduces blemishes without irritating the skin.

Choosing a light, medium-depth, or deep peel

A consultation is the best way to decide which chemical peel treatment is right for your needs. Light peels treat minor imperfections by addressing the outermost layer of skin while leaving the deeper layers untouched. This means there is little recovery time, and you can show off your results almost immediately.

Medium-depth and deep peels are more aggressive because they penetrate further into the skin to create dramatic results. But since they remove multiple layers, these peels require more downtime for healing. Our amazing team of skin care professionals can provide guidance about each option during your consultation.

Your chemical peel consultation

At OneSkin Integrative Dermatology, we consider each patient’s unique needs when designing a chemical peel treatment. We will ask about your concerns and discuss your skin rejuvenation goals. We then present you with a tailored plan that uses safe, medical-grade products that make the most of your results.

What to expect during a chemical peel

The specifically selected solution is applied to the face and left on for a specific amount of time. A mild stinging sensation is common during treatment, but it should not cause pain or discomfort. For deeper peels, a topical anesthetic cream may be applied prior to the peel to ensure your comfort.

Once the chemical peel solution has had enough time to take effect, we then carefully wipe off the product and apply a neutralizing agent. You may experience some redness and peeling afterward, but this is all part of the natural healing process.
