Acne is one of the most common skin conditions affecting millions of teens and adults each year. While some cases are considered mild and may be controlled with a consistent facial cleansing routine and over-the-counter medications, many times, this is insufficient to clear acne completely. Uncontrolled acne, even for weeks to months, can leave scarring.
There are many different lesions that can be present in acne. Typically, a mixture of whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and sometimes even painful cysts are present. A buildup of dead skin cells that clog our pores and allow bacteria to cause inflammation contributes to acne formation. It is most frequently found on the face, torso, shoulders, and back. It is important to identify and treat acne early to avoid permanent scarring.
At OneSkin Dermatology, Dr. Rachel Day and her team offer the Chambersburg area numerous treatment options to tackle active acne, pigment change, scarring, or a mix to get clear, luminous skin!
"Dr Day really takes the time to listen! Her advice has been excellent and she does NOT have a dismissive attitude, as I have found with several other dermatologists, and corporate healthcare in general. Her staff is friendly, informative and discrete. I love the office as it offers a relaxed spa-like space."- M.L. / Google / Feb 19, 2020
"I have had multiple procedures done by Dr. Day and have been thrilled with the results every time. Not only have I gotten the results I wanted afterwards, but she and her entire staff are welcoming, very knowledgable, informative, and comforting. She keeps it real, which I really appreciate. No false claims or advertising about what to expect. Awesome!"- A.B. / Google / Feb 13, 2020

"I was recently seen by Dr. Day for a full body skin check and a cosmetic evaluation. She was so friendly and knowledgeable which made my experience great. I was provided a through description on each product or procedure I was interested in. I also required a biopsy and the process for that service went well. Overall with the services I received, the staff, the doctor, cleanliness, and education my experience was great. In addition to everything I had previously stated the office is so beautiful. Dr. Day did a great job with her interior design. I highly recommend Dr. Day at OneSkin Dermatology. What a great addition to Chambersburg."- C.T. / Facebook / Jan 21, 2020
The factors that contribute to acne are multifactorial and can include hormonal, dietary, environmental, and medication effects. It is important to identify which causes are contributing to an individual’s acne so a targeted treatment plan can control breakouts before scarring occurs. At OneSkin Dermatology, a multifaceted approach looking at lifestyle habits, dietary considerations, types of acne, and level of scarring will get you on the path to clearer, healthy-looking skin fast!
The severity of acne symptoms can range from mild, "annoying breakouts" to tender cysts and even painful nodules with flu-like symptoms. Mood changes, lowered self-esteem, and lack of confidence in social settings can often occur even with mild acne. OneSkin Dermatology recognizes the impact acne can have on an individual’s well-being and approaches the treatment of acne as a medical condition, not a cosmetic inconvenience.
Figuring out the right treatment regimen alone can be challenging! Often, using only over-the-counter treatments does not get rid of acne completely. At OneSkin Dermatology, Dr. Day offers patients several treatment options to control acne and achieve clearer skin. For mild cases of acne, topical medications containing salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, or retinoids (Vitamin A derivatives) may be sufficient. Occasionally, oral antibiotics, such as minocycline, doxycycline, or azithromycin may be used to expedite clearance. However, Dr. Day uses oral antibiotics sparingly in the treatment of acne to minimize any possible negative effects that could be caused by prolonged use. For recalcitrant or severe acne, she is a local expert in the use of isotretinoin or Accutane and helps patients and families feel comfortable and safe throughout their treatment course. Adjunctive treatment modalities available at OneSkin Dermatology include acne chemical peels, laser treatment, and acne facials. Treatment for pigmentation problems related to resolved acne and scarring are also available using chemical peels, IPL, microneedling, and laser procedures.
